The light you see on your AirPods case is known as the ‘status light’. It usually stays as a single light, but this light can also flash or change to a different color depending on the status of your AirPods.

Why is my AirPod/AirPod Pro case flashing red?

If your AirPods case is flashing with a red light, it’s likely indicating an issue. Don’t worry, this usually means there has been a pairing error and you need to reset your AirPods. It’s a simple process and will help get your headphones back up and running.

How to fix

To reset your AirPods, put them in their charging case and keep the lid closed for 30 seconds. After this, open the lid without removing the AirPods. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and look for the name of your AirPods. Press the ‘i’ button and then select ‘Forget This Device’. Confirm by pressing again.

Press and hold the button at the back of the AirPods case to disconnect them from all other connected devices. Once the white light turns on, you will need to set up your AirPods again to reconnect.

Why is my AirPod/AirPod Pro case showing a red light?

If you notice that the case for your AirPods is illuminated by a red light, it’s likely that the battery is running low. When your AirPods are outside of their case and you see a red or amber light on the case, it means your case needs to be charged. You should be able to get one last charge out of the case before it goes completely dead.

If your AirPod case has a red or amber light while the AirPods are inside, it indicates that the AirPods are low on battery and are being charged by the case. It is best to not remove them until they have been fully charged.

If the red or amber warning light illuminates on your charging case, this simply indicates that your case is in the process of charging. Do not unplug the charging case until the light changes to green.

How to fix

If your AirPods case has a solid red light, there’s no need to worry; all you need to do is charge the case. The AirPods will automatically start charging if they are in the case, and you don’t have to do anything else. Just make sure your AirPods case is plugged in and the light should turn off as soon as the case is fully charged.
