Yes, it is possible for players to explore Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy.
Azkaban is unfortunately not marked on the map in Hogwarts Legacy as a visitable area, however, It is accessible through an early sidequest exclusive to one of the four houses.
Once the mission is completed, revisiting the prison is not an option, and although the teleportation area is limited, it is the sole opportunity to witness Dementors or to cast the Expecto Patronum spell in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to visit Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy
To visit Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy, follow these steps:
- Select Hufflepuff as your Hogwarts house of choice
- Play through the missions of the game until you save an old woman on the lakeside
- Speak to the portrait in the Hufflepuff common room
- Travel to upper Hogsmeade and speak with Helen Thistlewood
- You will then apparate/travel to Azkaban
Indeed, players who have opted for any of the remaining three houses will not have the chance to explore Azkaban during their playthrough in Hogwarts Legacy.
Fortunately, the mission is situated early in the game which means that players don’t have to go through an extensive amount of gameplay to reach it. However, it’s worth noting that Azkaban is a peculiarly iconic setting to be exclusively tied to a house that has a minimal association with it in the main canon of Hogwarts Legacy.
Once you have successfully defended the elderly lady on the lakeside around level 6, you will be presented with the mission. Following the completion of this quest, you will receive an owl notification instructing you to meet with a portrait in the Hufflepuff common room.
You will be directed to Eldritch Diggory’s portrait, the great-great-grandfather of Cedric and the former Minister for Magic. In this portrait, you will be informed of an unsolved murder and directed to head toward the north of the map to proceed with the mission.
Upon arrival, you will encounter Helen Thistlewood who will guide you to Azkaban, where you can commence the short mission.
