As the PS5 becomes the fastest-selling console in history, it’s hardly surprising that it’s difficult to purchase one. However, this limited availability means that many potential buyers are unaware of its contents. With the holiday season approaching, it’s important to make an informed decision if you’re considering buying one. To make things easier, let’s take a look at how many controllers come with the PS5.

So how many controllers do you get?

Throughout every generation of PlayStation consoles, the standard bundle has consistently featured only one controller. The latest iteration, the PlayStation 5, continues this trend by including a single DualSense controller in the package.

However, this doesn’t detract from the value of the standard bundle, as it contains numerous other items necessary to begin using the PS5. If you opt for the standard bundle, you’ll receive the following components:

  • PS5 Console
  • 1x PS5 Controller
  • 1x USB Cable
  • 1x HDMI Cable
  • Astro’s Playroom Game
  • 1x AC Power Cable

Yes, you read it correctly – a complimentary game comes with your PS5 console. Though Astro’s playroom may not be a revolutionary game, it serves as an excellent demonstration of the PS5’s capabilities and its controller, giving players a glimpse of what the next generation of gaming has to offer. In fact, it feels like a title designed specifically for the PS5.

What is Astro’s Playroom?

Astro’s Playroom is a free platformer game that comes pre-installed with every PlayStation 5 console. It is developed by Japan Studio’s Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game features four worlds, each showcasing new gameplay using the PS5 DualSense controller. Players can feel vibrations as they control the main character, Astro, and explore hidden references to Playstation console history to collect artifacts to display in the PlayStation Labo. The game is designed to show off the new console’s DualSense controller, which provides haptic feedback, fast loading, adaptive triggers, and 3D audio. The vibrations and new triggers that utilize variable tension give players a better sense of what they are doing, making for a more tactile experience.

Do you need an extra controller?

If you plan on playing with someone else, an additional controller will come in handy. The PS5 offers a wide range of co-op games, and there are several fantastic party games like Mortal Kombat, Rocket League, and Hot Wheels Unleashed. Even if you don’t typically engage in gaming activities, if you and your friends frequently gather, I’d recommended that you consider purchasing an extra controller.
